River Ribble
2009
In a quest to see rivers in their ‘natural’ state, I chose the Ribble as my first exploration. Using four Ordnance Survey Maps, the 121.6km river was divided into eight equal 15.2km sections. I marked all the dividing points alongside the river on the maps, then set off searching for them whilst observing the river and its creatures on the way. Once the dividing points were located as precisely as my ability allowed, I could finally photograph the river, but ONLY from these exact points. The result is a child of chance and control, while negotiating the balance between them has been the main artistic challenge.
The GPS coordinates listed on this page were measured by Garmin eTrex H and Nokia 5800 mobile phone. The map thumnails were produced by Nokia 5800 while I was at each point. More information about the journey is in the .
The nine images are exhibited at the Atrium, Gallery II, University of Bradford from January to March, 2010.
